Shopping around for that right set of jewelry can take time. Men and women love to receive jewelry as gifts for holidays and other special occasions. There are different styles and types of jewelry that one can purchase for that someone special.

Different kinds of jewelry include necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets. The stones set in jewelry are offered in variance, such as size, shape, and color, and you can choose how you want your jewelry by mixing and matching; or if you prefer, consider jewelry that has already been created.

Purchasing necklace and earring sets ensures that both the color and size of the stones match. When you purchase earrings and necklaces separately it can be rather difficult to find stones that match. Both earrings and necklaces are sold in sets so that you don’t need to do so much shopping around to find the right matching pair.

You’ll probably wish to commemorate major events by purchasing so-called fine jewelry. For times that are not quite as special, you might choose costume jewelry (perhaps faux diamonds, for instance) so that you can stay within your regular budget. If you’re about to propose marriage to somebody, you will undoubtedly decide to pay for fine jewelry, since that is a very special, supposedly once-in-a-lifetime, occasion.

You can purchase jewelry in department stores or in stores that specialize only in jewelry sales. This causes some tricky situations because department stores often offer additional discounts on their jewelry. You should make sure that the products have certifications and warranties. Stores that specialize in jewelry frequently have certified diamonds and gemstones, whereas department stores oftentimes do not. Jewelry stores often provide better warranty coverage than department stores.

When you have gifts to give and are out looking for necklace and earring sets once again, remember to think about the events you are celebrating and how much you really should lay out for each particular purchase. Are you considering fine jewels or costume jewelry? Decide also whether you actually need to patronize a dedicated jewelry shop or whether a larger, more diverse retail outlet would do just as well for the purpose. The major thing is to figure out what statement you want the present to make and the degree of generosity it is appropriate to extend to this recipient.

Gold Jewelry Buying Tips

August 13th, 2008

Gold has seemingly always been a sign of status, and throughout the ages, people have shown their gold by wearing it in the form of a chain. Even today, many people show off their personal taste and their class by displaying shining strands of this attractive precious metal; and whether the chains are quite bulky or fine, gold chains have a way of featuring a person’s natural beauty and personality.

Gold chains of 24 karat or solid gold are made by creating small, sometimes extremely delicate, golden links that are then connected to one another.

There are some very complex weaves like Basic Single Loop-in-Loop, Multiple Woven Double, Curved Multiple Woven Single, Basic Double Loop-in-Loop, Double with Wrapped Beads, Tapered Two-Way Double Loop-in-Loop Necklace, Side-Weave Single, Pinched Loop Through-Beads, Pinched Loop with Wrapped Beads, while others are very simple and straightforward. One popular type of gold chain is formed of a rectangular link that is twisted to lie flat, with no visible space at all between the links.

Gold chains are a welcome gift and, unlike other forms of jewelry such as bracelets and earrings, are not necessarily masculine or feminine. Look for a very delicate weave of gold chain if you’re shopping for a woman, and otherwise a thicker, heavier weave if you are shopping for a gentleman. Naturally, remember that more significant than the gender of the person you are shopping for is their personality; get them something that compliments the other gold jewelry that they already own.

When you’re shopping for gold chains, keep the karat information in mind. The greater the karat value, the more pure gold is in the chain. 10 karat gold is therefore less pure than 20 karat gold, though this can be a plus in some cases. 24 karat gold is the purest gold that you can get, and while it is very heavy, it is also quite soft. If you are worried about durability, 14 karat gold might be a somewhat better choice. Among the reasons why people purchase gold jewelry is because it has a low nickel content. If you are allergic to nickel, make sure that the gold you get is relatively pure. If you’re especially sensitive, stay away from gold that’s 14 carat, as even this might trigger your allergic reaction.

You’ll also have your choice of various colors of gold. The color of gold is usually affected by what metals have been used to alloy it with. White gold has a sheen not unlike silver or platinum, while rose gold has a lovely feminine pink tone to it. Pure gold is, of course, usually seen as a rich yellow.

As you can see, there are many things to remember when you’re shopping for a gold chain, whether it’s for you or a loved one. Keep your eyes peeled, though and soon enough, you’ll find the perfect one!
